Start of installation of the new mass spectrometers
11/11/2024The installation of the new mass spectrometers in the laboratory began today with the Orbitrap Ascend. Over the next two weeks, the Orbitrap Ascend and Orbitrap Astral will be brought to high vacuum, tested, calibrated and connected to the liquid chromatography systems.
Following the installation of the systems and initial training in the coming year, the foundations have been laid for exciting projects at the current frontier of mass spectrometry equipment. The two systems are each specialized in their own applications, but together they represent a major step towards establishing a powerful and internationally comparable mass spectrometry platform in Würzburg. We are closely monitoring the installation in order to internalize tricks and tips that are useful in the daily use of the systems. In the end, a system is only as good as the scientist who operates it.
