Research on Germany’s highest mountain
As part of her Master’s thesis, Anneke Müller is currently studying the local fauna in the Zugspitze region, under the supervision of Prof. Malte Jochum (JMU) and Dr Julian Lunow (University of Lüneburg).
Last week, a total of 33 ground traps were set up along an altitude gradient from the Knorrhütte to the Schneefernerhaus to record ground-dwelling arthropods. In a few weeks’ time, the traps will be collected and the samples analysed in the laboratory. The aim is to document the species diversity and abundance of these animals and, in the long term, to investigate how their communities will change in the coming years as climate change progresses.
