Start of the UrbanPArt field sampling in Würzburg
05/31/2024The fieldwork phase of the UrbanPart project started in May 2024. About 40 grassland sites have been sampled.
From mid-May to September, our PhD student Karla Wenner will sample urban green spaces and semi-natural grasslands in Würzburg as part of the UrbanPArt project. The project focuses on the phenology of urban arthropod communities and the influence of green space management. At the same time, the importance of semi-natural grasslands at the edge of residential areas and the connectivity between green spaces for insects and spiders will be investigated.
During the current surveys, ground- and vegetation-dwelling arthropods are collected using suction sampling. The faunistic surveys are accompanied by vegetation inventories. Karla is supported by Paulina Stock, a student assistant, and volunteers.
Starting in June, the sampling will be supported by an Inno Lab candidate from the Earth Observation Research Cluster. The aim is to compare ecological field methods with automated remote sensing methods (LiDAR).
