The fruit fly Drosophila is a prime model in circadian research, but still little is known about its circadian regulation of metabolism. Ina collaboration with the Pharmaceutical Biology at the Biocenter, wehad a look at the effect of a null mutation in the clock gene period, combining metabolomics, genetics and behavioural assays. Our new results point towards impaired mitochondrial activityand suggest that neither feeding, energy storage nor mobilisation is significantly affected in flies with an impaired clock.
