My research focuses on the analysis of movement patterns, in particular on investigating the flight behavior of moths under natural conditions or in presence of artificial light sources. I track the flight paths of individual moths using a harmonic radar system to analyze movement patterns in detail. My central research questions concern the impact of the moon on the flight activity and behavior of moths, as well as the influence of light pollution on their orientation. A comparison of flight behavior of individuals collected from rural and urban populations will provide information on adaptive responses that might differ for males and females.
