The Nikon C1 is a standard confocal microscope with 3 separate single channel detectors (PMTs). Additionally the emission light can be spectrally resolved by switching to a spectral detector. Using 32 PMTs the spectral resolution can be varied between 2.5, 5 and 10nm. Resolving the spectrum of the emission enables to correct for scattering of tissue, autofluorescence or split overlapping emission spectra of dyes.
