Daniel Wendscheck receives conference prize for his work on protein translocation
09/25/2024Daniel was able to convince the jury with his presentation on how the new peroxin Pex39 coordinates protein import in yeast and humans and was awarded the prize for the “Best Short Talk” presentation.
The visit to the workshop New challenges in protein translocation across membranes in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Spain organized by the European Molecular Biology Organization, not only brought Daniel Wendscheck up to date with the latest international research, but also got him a prize for his work on peroxin Pex39. This new protein, which has only recently been described by multiple research groups collaboratively, is a previously unnoticed part of the peroxisomal import machinery (Preprint on bioRxiv).
The workshop, at which Prof. Bettina Warscheid also presented the Chair's current research, focused on advances in our understanding of protein transport with emphasis on state-of-the-art techniques. The focus was on proteostasis of ER proteins, unusual protein transport pathways, protein import into peroxisomes, translocation of proteins into chloroplasts, structural aspects of import mechanisms, mitochondrial biogenesis and secretion systems. The EMBO workshop thus offered young and established researchers a platform for excellent presentations, lively discussions and outstanding networking opportunities.
