Biologist Christian Hof warns in an interview about a dramatic loss of biodiversity. The climate crisis significantly exacerbates global species extinction.

In an interview with the Frankfurter Rundschau, biologist Christian Hof explains that the climate crisis is significantly accelerating global species extinction. While the primary driver remains habitat loss due to intensive agriculture and deforestation, climate change is gaining increasing importance. Estimates suggest that about a quarter of the approximately eight million known species are threatened. With a global warming of 2.5 to 3 degrees Celsius, about 5 percent of all species could become extinct by the end of the century. Limiting warming to 1.5 to 2 degrees would reduce the risk to 2 to 3 percent.
