Master course
The Master’s program in Biology provides an advanced, interdisciplinary education in the biology, ecology, and conservation of organisms and ecosystems. Students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills through courses in areas such as Animal and Tropical Ecology, Forest and Agroecology, Neurobiology and Behavioural Physiology, and Chemical and Molecular Ecology.
The Master of Biology requires a total of 120 ECTS and approximately two years of study. Students must choose at least two thematic areas: a main topic with at least 45 ECTS, a second topic with at least 30 ECTS, complementary courses (additional achievements) with 15 ECTS, and a Master thesis with an oral presentation worth 30 ECTS. Our department offers four core modules for the Master of Biology: Lecture Series – Neurobiology, Behavioural Physiology, and Animal Ecology (10 ECTS), Animal and Tropical Ecology F1 (15 ECTS), Animal and Tropical Ecology F2 (15 ECTS), and Specialized Courses in Animal Ecology and Tropical Biology (10 ECTS). Partial modules with reduced ECTS credit can also be selected. Additional courses and Master thesis topics are offered by our department.
We also offer international Master’s programs taught entirely in English. One highlight is our double-degree program MERGE – Master of Global Change Ecology, offered in cooperation with the University of Bergen, Norway. In addition, we offer the international Master’s program Conservation Biology and Applied Ecology.
