Climate change and biodiversity at the David-Schuster-Realschule

03/05/2025 |

What does climate change have to do with biodiversity? The “Green Teens” Climate Working group at David-Schuster-Realschule Würzburg recently explored this question during a visit from Prof. Christian Hof at one of their working group meetings.

Under the leadership of teachers Andrea Beck, Tatjana Pfenning and Miriam Wagner, 13 motivated pupils in the Climate Working Group are working on environmental issues, in particular sustainability and climate change. They had invited Christian Hof to learn more about how two of the biggest challenges of our time, the climate crisis and biodiversity change, are connected - from the perspective of a “real researcher”. The climate working group also wants to contribute to the ecological enhancement of the school grounds, so they were grateful for the scientist's suggestions on how to create suitable habitat areas for wild bees and butterflies, for example. Overall, the researcher's visit was a great success for all sides: “I am impressed with the enthusiasm and interest that the members of the Climate Working Group showed during our exchange. This scientific curiosity and commitment to sustainability by both the pupils and their teachers is exemplary for all parts of our society. I am very happy about the chance to contribute even just a little bit towards fostering the pupils’ commitment to continue their work on these important topics,” says Christian Hof.
