In our rapidly changing world, we need large-scale, long-term and globally distributed data on wildlife. Data on insects often lags behind that of more charismatic animal groups, even though they play an important role in many ecosystems. As a result, we lack understanding of how insects respond to change, which prevents effective conservation action.

The week before last (23–26 February), most of our Above-Belowground Interaction Ecology team attended the 23rd Biodiversity Exploratories (BE) Assembly in Wernigerode as part of the MultiCrossBEF project.

With climate change increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as heatwaves, there is an urgent need to understand how species experience and respond to these changes.
