Research
We investigate how biodiversity varies spatially and temporally - from local to global scales. The focus is on how man-made drivers such as climate and land-use change influence species, their interactions, ecological communities and biodiversity patterns. A central concern is the exchange between science and society: this is why we are actively involved in science communication and dialogue with the public and stakeholders from various sectors of society.
Teaching
Our courses range from zoological excursions and ecological field courses to methodological basics such as statistics, modelling, experimental ecology and conservation biology, as well as project-based modules in soil ecology, macroecology and global change biology. Our aim is to train a new generation of open-minded, well-trained biodiversity scientists and ecological specialists.
