His research addresses the single and combined effects of multiple natural and anthropogenic disturbances on the functioning of key ecosystem processes and services. Due to ongoing shifts in disturbance regimes, our ability to manage ecosystems increasingly hinges upon understanding ecosystem responses to interactions between natural and anthropogenic disturbances. His work encompasses empirical studies and ecological synthesis, including meta-analyses. He strives to generate new understanding on the ecological consequences of interacting disturbances and elaborate on the factors that can mitigate any negative effects on the functioning and resilience of forest ecosystems.
