Naples Zoological Station: research trips and publications (1888–1914)
„How much happy work, how much joy of discovery has this house seen!“ (Boveri 1910). From 1888 to 1914 Boveri makes eight research trips lasting several months to the Naples Zoological Station founded by the German zoologist Anton Dohrn. The Station has developed into an international hub where new methods and questions are explored. Here, Boveri carries out many experiments on sea urchin eggs, from 1901 always with his wife, including the groundbreaking double fertilisation experiments. More than 20 of his publications are based on results obtained in Naples.
