Chromosome territories

This optical section shows the spatial distribution of all pairs of chromosomes in an interphase cell nucleus. One can see the arrangement of the chromosomes in this human connective tissue cell. It is striking that the differently-coloured chromosome territories hardly overlap, but are clearly separated from each other. Numbers indicate the chromosome numbers, X and Y denote the sex chromosomes (Thomas Cremer, LMU Munich).
