    Molecular Biodiversity Research

    In this course, we will give you an overview in how to use molecular tools for ecological biodiversity assessments. We will cover basics in traditional ecology as well, so no previous knowledge is required in this field. We will teach theory and practical work hands-in-hands, so that the course will be varied in theoretical basics, lab work and computer based analysis. You will have seen the complete workflow (although not possible to go very deep) of ecological diversity analyses based on sequence data from the beginning to the end (Sanger and NGS).

    Ecosystem Modeling Research

    In this course, the student will learn to develop own research project in ecosystem modeling. In the first week, the internship student will define a study question, gather information on the study system, conceive a conceptual model for causal relationships, external drivers and parameters. In the second week onwards, the student will learn to implement the model in a computer language (e.g. in C++, R or Julia), perform a simulation experiment, analyse the simulated results and write down a manuscript presenting the model and findings. 


    From Genome to Ecosystem

    This course aims to integrate all research fields present in the CCTB, teaching the students how to work in a multidisciplinary team involving 1) handling and analysis of big data; 2) investigating evolutionary history, phylogenetic relationships, genomic associations and ecological drivers of biodiversity, phenotypes and interactions; 3) developing automatic image analyses; 4) exploring eco-evolutionary mechanisms influencing biodiversity across ecological levels of organization (from genomes to ecosystems).

    Bioinformatik MSc

    Die Vorlesung stellt aktuelle Methoden der Genom- und Proteinsequenzanalyse vor. Diese reichen von der Assemblierung und Annotation von Genomen bis zur Rekonstruktion der Phylogeny von Proteinen. Zusätzlich werden in den Übungen Analyseprogramme direkt am Rechner ausgeführt.

    Image Analysis and Modeling of Complex Biological Dynamics

    This summer school serves to introduce undergraduate students (BSc. and MSc. level) in the biological and biomedical fields to quantitative methods for studying complex dynamics in biological systems. The participants will learn basic techniques for image analysis and mathematical modelling that they can apply later in their own research projects. Mornings will entail lectures, whereas the afternoons will include practical exercises. Lectures and practical work will be given both by speakers from the University Würzburg and external invited leading experts in image analysis and computational modeling. The last day will include a symposium with talks of invited lecturers and local researchers to showcase their current research to the summer school participants, which will have the opportunity to contribute as well.
